History of Rajghat

The Samadhi of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, is situated on the western bank of the Yamuna River in Delhi. His tomb is made of marble. The last words spoken at the time of his death, Hey Ram, are written on his tomb. Now it has been made into a garden. Where colorful flowers and fountains look very beautiful. The Samadhi of our first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru is also present in Shantivan nearby.

Rajghat is an ancient ghat on the banks of river Yamuna, built of black marble. Which is a 12 feet square platform. It represents the place where Gandhi was cremated after his assassination. Along with Gandhiji’s tomb at Rajghat, Gandhiji’s life is also presented here in the Gandhi Memorial Museum through paintings, sculptures etc.
